This week is Children’s Mental Health Week, and now more than ever the importance of children and young people’s mental health has never been more critical.
At VSA we provide a school-based counselling service in conjunction with Aberdeen City Council, offering pupils one-to-one sessions to cope with a wide range of social and emotional issues. Due to the ongoing pandemic we have seen a rise in the demand for this service, as many young people struggle to cope with the additional pressures faced in lockdown.
We currently support pupils from Northfield Academy, St Machar Academy, and Hazlehead Academy (we also support pupils of primary age at schools that feed into the Hazlehead school cluster). Pupils can self-refer to the service or be referred with the support of their guidance teacher, parents, and carers.
