Something new is happening at VSA’s Mercat Bookshop… and we’d love you to be part of it!
Mercat Moments is our brand-new series of community events designed to bring people together through stories, creativity and conversation. From inspiring author talks and lively book discussions to hands-on poetry and writing workshops, each event is a chance to pause, connect and discover something new.
Whether you’re a passionate reader, an aspiring writer, or have never picked up pen and paper before, Mercat Moments is your invitation to step into the bookshop, meet like-minded people and share in the magic of words.
Come along, pull up a chair, and enjoy a moment at the Mercat!
Elaine Mottram, author of You Can’t Pour From An Empty Cup, Practical Ways To Take Care of Your Emotional Health And Wellbeing for Carers, will host a ‘Meet the Author’ pop-up session and Q&A to celebrate Carers’ Week 2026.
Inspired by a decade of supporting around 100 carers—alongside her own experience caring for her mother—Elaine wrote her book to share practical strategies for maintaining emotional health and wellbeing. Through her work, carers generously shared their stories, helping to shape the guidance in her book.
Join us on Tuesday 9th June, from 10:30am to 12:30pm, for an opportunity to learn practical ways to support carers’ emotional wellbeing and to highlight the vital role of unpaid carers.
Copies of You Can’t Pour From An Empty Cup will be available to purchase for £10, with a percentage of proceeds donated to VSA to support the vital work we do for individuals and families across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
