"Having worked in nurseries and out of school care for a few years, completing my SSCYP level 3 and a Degree in child and youth studies, I decided that the next step in my career would be to share my knowledge with others and help them with their own qualifications.
After searching for a while I came across the VSA who had just started taking on external candidates for the assessor award. I spoke to Diane for a while about my plans and she offered to put me through the qualification for a very reasonable price, which could also be paid monthly which was a great help. I was working alongside completing the award and this was never an issue, it was flexible to be able to complete while still working pretty much full time.
I then met Erica who was to be my mentor and assessor, who provided me with 2 candidates that I would assess through my qualification. Erica was amazing from the very start and always had time for me and answered my endless questions. The entire team at VSA are welcoming and friendly and always made time for me when I was in the building. I was given opportunities for further training through the training programmes they run from the centre which were beneficial for my knowledge.
I completed the course in just under a year and feel that thanks to the team at VSA i am equipped with all the knowledge I need to take my step as a fully qualified assessor.
