Meet Natasha!

"For me, gaining the experience and learning at the same time is the best way!"

Natasha, who joined VSA back in 2019, has gained SVQ qualifications through our Modern Apprenticeship programme – as well as seeing her VSA career progress to a Team Leader role at our Westerton Crescent service.

After initially considering a career within the Police, Natasha became interested in working in health and social care after visiting a VSA Open Day and learning more about the opportunities available.

“I joined VSA as a Relief member of staff five years ago and became full-time very shortly after, I was interested in working in Mental Health and started at Northfield Lodge before moving on to Westerton”, she explains. “VSA then gave me the opportunity to continue my work alongside studying for the qualifications needed to progress my career”

“The support I have had from VSA’s Learning & Development team has been amazing! Fiona, Erica and Nina made the training fun and enjoyable. I had people that I knew I could speak to for additional advice or help if I needed it – there was no such thing as a silly question”.

The support work and the ability to make a difference to people’s lives is a huge motivator for Natasha. “Every time you are helping someone, you are progressing yourself. You will so learn so much more from the people that you are supporting, in terms of how they feel and how they open up to you”

“Although you personally may be having a bad day outside of work, it is so important to be strong and positive for the people we support. I love spending time with them to help set goals that they can go on to achieve.”

In the past year, Natasha has successfully completed an SVQ in Social Services and Healthcare (Level 6) and a PDA (Personal Development Award) In Medication. Recently, she has started her PDA in Supervision and will continue to undertake her Level 7.

“For me, gaining the experience and learning at the same time is the best way – that way, you are gaining REAL experience along the way. There is no better way to learn than through hands on experience. It’s also a great way to build your confidence”.

About our Modern Apprenticeship Programme

VSA SVQ Centre delivers a successful Modern Apprenticeship Programme and provide a range of qualifications in Health and Social Care. Alongside studying, our apprentices gain practical experience working with the vulnerable people we support. This approach helps our students to put what they have learned into practice with the support of our dedicated team of learning and development professionals.

All of our assessors and verifiers have worked for VSA care services and have years of experience working within health and social care. We have full time assessors based in the main office as well as workplace assessors within some of our services, in order to support our candidates effectively.
