Helping Maintain Your Independence
The main aim of Ruthrieston House is to encourage and promote independence.
We are closely involved with the enablement project which encourages service users
to maintain their abilities for as long as they possibly can by using person-centred approaches. Ruthrieston House is managed over three sections: ground, first and second floors. All bedrooms have en-suite facilities. Second floor rooms have their own showers and residents are encouraged to bring their own furniture and personal items to make it more familiar and homely for them.
Ruthrieston House’s handyman will be happy to put any pictures on the walls or assist with anything else that will make your new space more homely. Residents have access to a fully serviced lift which will take them between floors. Ruthrieston is also accessible for people with disabilities as all rooms have level access and all doors are suitable for wheelchair access.
Each floor has a communal lounge and fully functioning satellite kitchens; this allows visiting families the opportunity to make their loved ones and themselves a nice cup of tea while enjoying the company of the person they have come to visit. The first and second floors have computers and we encourage residents to use them where appropriate. We also provide a Techno Gym for people that would like to stay active and a full sized pool table can be found on the first floor for anyone that would like a game with either residents or their families.
Ruthrieston House is also supported by a wide range of volunteers who assist in the running of the service. We ensure the appropriate safeguards and training are provided for our volunteers as safety and protection are paramount to VSA. Volunteers support arts and crafts, whist and dominoes. We have an excellent team of staff here at Ruthrieston House who are always happy to help. Nothing is any trouble and the residents' needs always come first. The lounges have TV, videos, DVD players and CD players for anyone that would like to use them.
Ruthrieston House has a beautiful enclosed garden with raised flower beds at the rear of the home. Residents are encouraged to sit in this safe and secure space. The
garden also has a garden swing and many of the residents like to use this on a warm sunny day.
