Mental Health Support Group & Counselling

"I never thought life could be so good"

Living with a mental health condition can be daunting but we are here to support you, every step of the way, on your journey to recovery with a wide range of services.

Perhaps you are off work with stress or depression and have lost your confidence or maybe you are struggling with low self-esteem or crippling anxiety? Whatever the reason our VSA peer support group Reconnect is here for you.

Our Reconnect Support Group offers a peer support service for people living with a mental health condition. The group supports a person's emotional, social and mental wellbeing.

Peer to peer support enables people living with a mental health condition to share personal experiences with others who can relate to how you are feeling. At Reconnect, we focus on a person's individual strengths, not weaknesses, and work with the person to set goals to help them on their journey to recovery.

We support people in rebuilding their confidence and help them overcome anxieties by empowering people to take control of their journey to recovery.

The group meets five days a week to allow people who access this service an opportunity to take part in a calendar of activities that they have designed.

Morning or afternoon sessions are available; each person also has the option of private one to one sessions should they feel this would be helpful.

For anyone who may find it difficult to join the group, additional support such as individual sessions or bringing a friend or family member along can also be arranged.

Engagement is key; although the group is overseen and supported by a trained mental health support worker, the focus is on the group and volunteers taking ownership of the service to ensure it remains meaningful and sustainable. The group helps to increase levels of self-esteem, confidence and positive feelings amongst the people who volunteer and use the service. Our peer-support volunteers often experience an increase in their own ability to cope with mental health problems.

Our Reconnect service also benefits the health system as a whole as it can lead to a decrease in hospital admissions for those taking part.
