Residential Care Service

Linn Moor’s residential provision consists of seven self-contained group homes, each offering a high standard of accommodation. Occupancy numbers range from single to four bedrooms allowing individual needs to be catered for.

Linn Moor views participation as a vital component to successful outcomes, therefore each young person and their family are given the opportunity to choose the colour scheme of their bedroom and will be supported in selecting and purchasing bedding and soft furnishings. In our experience, allowing a young person to reflect their interests, personalities and choices in this way gives them a sense of ownership over the process of moving in. We also support the children and young people to participate in keeping the environment clean, safe and comfortable, therefore creating a warm, homely atmosphere.

Each young person has an individual outcome based plan which, through an on-going process of person-centred assessment, planning and evaluation, identifies specific life skills in need of development or consolidation. These plans are produced in partnership with the young people where this is appropriate and also take into account the wishes and expectations of families and other relevant professionals. We encourage families to be fully involved in the care of their child, with regular reviews and core group meetings taking place at agreed intervals. Family contact is supported in a way that meets children and young people's needs; this can include telephone calls, email, webcam, supported home visits, overnight stays and holidays. Family and friends are also encouraged to visit Linn Moor and we hold termly award ceremonies where young people’s successes and achievements are celebrated.

We also promote opportunities for the children and young people to socially integrate, giving them the chance to build relationships and learn coping strategies in a safe environment. VSA has invested heavily in improving the physical environment at Linn Moor and young people can spend time with their peers in the soft play, relaxation and sound and light therapy rooms, cinema club, nature trail, sensory garden, play park, youth club or communal BBQ area.
