Fundraisers go the extra mile for VSA!
A team of over one hundred runners has taken part in the London Marathon and Run Balmoral this past weekend raising over £20,000 for VSA’s Changing Lives Campaign. With participants in the children’s races, 5K and 10K at Balmoral followed by 5 participants taking on the London Marathon; it was a weekend full of running for Aberdeen’s largest social care charity.
VSA we supported by various local groups and companies including Subsea 7, West End Boys Club and General & Technical Flooring Ltd. Charlotte Stirton, a Structural Engineer at Subsea 7, was delighted to take on the challenge with her colleagues. She said, “We wanted to take on a challenge this year for a great cause, and after putting it to a vote around the office the clear favourite was VSA. It has been fantastic getting healthy and raising funds for such a worthwhile cause, especially after hearing the news about VSA’s new £3.2 million mental wellbeing facility.”
The runners fought through the rain at Balmoral, but it certainly didn’t dampen their spirits. Macy Youngson, aged 9, has supported VSA for years through the charity’s Sing, Sing Sing event; said: “I love coming out to Balmoral and taking part in the school races. It means I get to take part with my friends and helps to raise funds for VSA.”
A day later, VSA had 5 participants in the London Marathon all determined to get through the grueling 26.2-mile race. Demi Beattie, who has volunteered and previously worked for VSA, saw this as a fantastic way of both challenging herself and giving back to the charity. “I’ve seen first-hand how the incredible work done by VSA supports people across Aberdeen, and it made the challenge even better knowing I was doing it for a great cause. I loved every single minute of it, and I’m delighted to have been able to support VSA in their quest to build a new mental wellbeing facility in the city.”
Jennifer Mitchell, VSA’s Director of External Relations, said: “We have been blown away by the response of the people of Aberdeen since announcing our £3.2 million campaign to build a mental wellbeing facility. It was fantastic to see this weekend children, adults and local organisations putting their best foot forward for VSA. We are so grateful for their support and can’t wait to see more of our supporters take on challenges for VSA in the coming months.”
