St Aubin's
St. Aubin's provides accommodation for eight people who have experienced problems with their mental health. Our residents either are no longer in need of full time hospital care and have the potential to move on to more independent community living, or they have experienced difficulties managing to live independently in the community and require a period of rehabilitation and assessment.
The accommodation is on two floors with individual bedrooms and spacious communal facilities. The house is two miles from the city centre with a convenient bus route. There is a choice of shopping facilities within walking distance, both supermarkets and smaller convenience stores and there is a local G.P. practice within a ten to fifteen minute walk.
Expectations
As our emphasis is on promoting the development of daily living skills, the understanding and management of mental health problems and the building of confidence, we expect residents to participate in all aspects of their care needs.
Residents will be expected to maintain an acceptable level of tidiness within their own room and contribute to the overall domestic care of the house through the completion of a daily chore. They will be expected to plan, shop for and cook their own meals, manage their budget and be proactive in dealing with issues related to their health. In all these areas appropriate support will be available from members of staff.
Support
Varying levels of support are available as required by the individual and these levels are agreed between the resident, their Care Manager and the staff at St.Aubin's. This support is flexible in adapting to the changing needs of the resident and is reviewed on a regular basis. Our residents also have access to our part-time Social Worker who can provide an advocacy service and other assistance as required.
Staff
The staff team consists of a Deputy Project Manager, 2 full-time Project Workers and two part-time Assistant Project Workers and there is also a part time Social Worker with dedicated social work hours that pertain to this unit. The unit provides support between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. with no overnight cover. There is however access to the emergency on call system.
Activities
Each resident will be supported in accessing interest, educational, social or work opportunities within the community. We are also willing to organise activities within the house, either on an individual or group basis. On Saturdays, residents and ex-residents, get together and share a communal meal assisted by residential and outreach staff and the residents of St. Aubin's themselves often get together to prepare a communal meal and expand their cooking skills.
