VSA's New Chairman

After two years as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of social care charity VSA, Mr Norman Esslemont has handed over the reins to the new Chairman, Mr James Stevenson.  Mr Stevenson was voted in by the Board of Trustees and his election is a reflection of his hard work for the agency. Board Trustee Dr Vijay Jandial was appointed Vice-Chair.

James Stevenson is a well-known business figure in the North East of Scotland.  A self-made man, following completion of his apprenticeship as a painter and decorator, he began his career in the property industry renovating tenement flats.  His focus then shifted to the development of industrial and retail property and, over the past 30 years, his company, G & J Investments, has been responsible for some of Aberdeen's most significant commercial property developments.

In addition to managing G & J Investments, Mr Stevenson has devoted a considerable amount of time to local organisations, including The Seven Incorporated Trades of Aberdeen, Kincardine and Deeside Enterprise Trust, The Aberdeen Cyrenians, and he is also a board member of St. Margaret's School for Girls.  Mr Stevenson has been a member of the Board of Trustees of VSA for the last eight years and has chaired several of the charity's committees.

The new Chairman and Vice-Chair will help to oversee the activities of VSA, and will serve for two years.

VSA aims to build a strong and caring community in Aberdeen, providing the best of care and support to help our service users achieve their maximum potential. We work with thousands of people in the city each year ? helping children and families to build better futures; older people to lead more independent, dignified & fulfilling lives; adults with disabilities and mental health problems to get the most from life; and supporting carers who do a wonderful job with vulnerable local people.
