Local Couple Run Edinburgh Marathon to Support VSA

30 May 2007

A Westhill husband and wife took on the weather as well as the Edinburgh Marathon last weekend to raise funds for local charity VSA. Sean (36) and Moira (35) Berryman faced awful weather with heavy rain and wind as they tackled the gruelling 26 mile course, raising GBP1,500 in sponsorship for VSA's caring work with individuals and families, young and old in the community.

Moira, who is a Linkworker with VSA, supporting children with additional support needs to attend mainstream after school clubs, said, "This was an incredible experience - hard but very satisfying to have completed the marathon and raised a substantial sum for VSA, a charity supporting people in our local community. We are now struggling to decide whether the marathon box in our lives has been ticked, never to be repeated, or whether the bug has bitten and another beckons. More worryingly, the longer the time from the event the rosier the memories become - and the pain of the last few miles gets forgotten!"

The couple found the last 6 miles tough going, but were lifted by supporters who turned out regardless of the weather. Sean, a charge nurse in the ITU at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, completed the marathon in 3 hours 17 minutes while Moira came in behind him at 3 hours 53 minutes.

Sheila Munro, PR and Events Officer for VSA, said, "This is a great achievement by Sean and Moira and we would like to thank them both for supporting us with their fantastic sponsorship. Each year we have charity places available for both the London and Edinburgh Marathons so perhaps we can persuade them to tackle London next year!"
