William takes SCAD Dive From 200 Feet to Raise Money for VSA
22 May 2007
A trainee at VSA Easter Anguston Farm at Peterculter has raised GBP113 in sponsorship for VSA when he free fell from 200 feet last Sunday (20 May) taking part in the SCAD (Suspended Catch Air Device) at VSA Day in the Duthie Park. William Moir, aged 21, who lives in VSA's supported accommodation at Craigton Grove in Peterculter, was joined on the SCAD dive by Natalie King, a social care worker at Craigton Grove, who also raised sponsorship for VSA.
William admitted to being a little nervous before his turn on the SCAD but took it in his stride when it was time to be raised to 200 feet above ground on a platform attached to a crane. When released, William accelerated to 70mph before being caught on a huge airtube supported double net, 50 feet from the ground. A jubilant William raised his arms in triumph as he stepped back onto terra firma, absolutely delighted with his achievement!
VSA Day was held by local social care charity VSA (formerly Voluntary Service Aberdeen) to raise awareness and funds for their services for individuals and families, young and old in the community. With a number of attractions for all ages, and the bonus of a sunny day, the event was a great success, raising in excess of GBP13,000 for VSA.
