VSA Day a Great Success!

23 May 2007

Local social care charity VSA (formerly Voluntary Service Aberdeen) are celebrating the success of their first VSA Day which was held in the Duthie Park last Sunday (20th May).

The event was organised to raise awareness of and funds for VSA's caring services for individuals and families, young and old in the community. With a number of attractions for all ages, the event was very successful, raising in excess of GBP13,000 for VSA.

A great attraction was the sponsored SCAD (Suspended Catch Air Device) which raised participants 200 feet on a platform attached to a crane, from where they were released to freefall at a speed of up to 70mph, landing in a huge airtube supported double net. First to take the plunge was VSA's Chief Executive, Kenneth Simpson, who said it was the thrill of a lifetime!

The sunny weather brought hundreds of people to the park to take part in or watch the SCAD dive, buy goods from a variety of stalls and enjoy the belly dancing, dog obedience and Tai Chi demonstrations. Children had fun on the carnival activities and bouncy castle and a great favourite with them was the face painting.

Fiona Poustie, VSA's Head of Fundraising, said, "We're delighted that VSA Day went so well and would like to thank everyone who supported us. We hope that they will all come back and support us next year at VSA Day 2008!"

Ends.
