Debenhams Store Manager Runs for VSA

17 April 2007

The Store Manager of the Debenhams in Aberdeen will be running the London Marathon on Sunday 22nd April, and has his mind set on helping a local good cause while completing the gruelling 26 mile course.  An experienced marathon runner, Gary Kelway of Hillside, near Portlethen, has chosen social care charity VSA (formerly Voluntary Service Aberdeen) to benefit from his fundraising, and has the backing of Debenhams' staff to help achieve his aim of raising as much as possible for the charity.

Gary has run several marathons in the past, raising funds mostly for national charities. This year he looked closer to home for a worthwhile local charity and decided that VSA fitted the bill with its services supporting individuals and families, young and old in the community. VSA has been made Debenhams' 'charity of the year' and staff will continue their fundraising efforts well after Gary completes the marathon.

Fiona Poustie, Head of Fundraising at VSA, said, "We wish Gary the very best of luck for the London Marathon and would like to thank him and the staff at Debenhams for the fantastic efforts they are making to raise funds to support our caring work in the community. We have a four more runners taking part in the Marathon so good luck and a very big thanks to them too!"
