VSA Millennium Volunteers Celebrate!
![]() To celebrate the huge contribution made by local volunteers over the past year, VSA held a Volunteers’ Social Evening for the hundreds of ‘old’ and ‘new’ generation volunteers who help run many of the vital services provided by the charity. The event took place at the Aberdeen Art Gallery, Schoolhill, on Wednesday 7th June 2006. Kenneth Simpson, Chief Executive of VSA said: “This event is an opportunity to celebrate volunteering in our community, and to say thanks for the dedication and skills of over 400 of VSA’s volunteers. Many of our volunteers have been with us for more than 10, 20 and even 30 years, while recent recruitment has brought in a number of young people keen to do their part. Whatever their age, volunteers play a crucial role in supporting VSA’s services as well as those of other organisations in the local community, dedicating time, energy, skills and compassion to a huge range of tasks in order to improve the lives of many of those in greatest need in the community. On behalf of our Board of Directors and staff, I would like to thank our volunteers for all the time and energy they have put into making a difference to the lives of others throughout the past year. “ During the evening, Cammy Campbell from Northsound 2 presented Millennium Volunteer Awards to young volunteers in the city, aged between 16 and 25, who have given up their free time to help their communities, both within VSA and other local organisations. Through the course of their voluntary work, young Millennium Volunteers have taken part in a variety of tasks, gaining valuable skills and experience that they can make use of in the workplace. At the ceremony, up to 20 young people were presented with awards for 50, 100 or 200 volunteering hours. VSA’s Aberdeen Volunteer Centre recruits, matches and trains volunteers to a wide range of opportunities across the city. Volunteers come in all ages, abilities and experiences, and there really is something for everybody. Anyone who might be interested in volunteering, or who would like to find out more, should drop into the Volunteer Centre on the Castlegate, telephone 01224 212021, or visit the Volunteer Centre’s website at www.vsa.org.uk/volunteer.
